Panelist Speakers

Dr. Jeffrey Hartog’s expertise in plastic surgery is global: He has received training from leading international practitioners in locations such as South Africa, Dallas, Miami and Scotland. The Bougainvillea Clinique, located in Winter Park, Fla., is home to Dr. Hartog’s practice and where he specializes in autologous fat transfer (AFT), an increasingly popular technique within the field of reconstructive cosmetic surgery. He is dedicated to giving women a reconstruction option – fat grafting – that allows them to rebuild natural-looking and -feeling breasts in an outpatient and virtually scarless procedure. Dr. Hartog’s certifications and residencies in reconstructive, general, oral and maxillofacial surgeries have earned him a unique position as one of the most highly sought-after authoritative figures on all matters related to plastic surgery. He has spoken on major trends at conferences of his peers.

Dr. Daryl Wier has more than 30 years of experience and excellence in general surgery. His expertise recently created an exciting development for central Florida that offers breast cancer patients the ability to undergo immediate breast reconstruction using AFT at the time of their mastectomy procedures. This is particularly valuable for patients who choose prophylactic mastectomy procedures due to strong family histories of breast cancer and/or BRCA-positive conditions. AFT performed at the time of mastectomy has been shown to prevent contracture of the mastectomy scars and avoids severe chest deformities. Dr. Wier practices at the Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park, which is adjacent to the Bougainvillea Clinique.

Dr. Julie Miller is a breast cancer survivor and radiologist at the Women’s Center of Radiology.  She aids the community by circulating information on the subject of women’s health. A graduate from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Dr. Miller completed her radiology residency and finished her Breast Fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta. Previously, she served as a Major in the U.S. Air Force as Chief of Mammography and Ultrasound at Eglin AFB in Florida.  She is board-certified, a member of the American College of Radiology and a member of the Society of Breast Imaging.

Melanie Young, author of Getting Things Off My Chest, is a self-described “Nooga-Yorker” having been born and raised in Chattanooga, Tenn. before moving to Washington D.C., Georgia and finally landing in New York. Melanie travels the world in search of new experiences as a wine- and food-tasting professional. In 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Melanie’s mission is to provide those who share this diagnosis with the same navigation and empowerment that was so essential in her own battle with the disease. Getting Things Off My Chest: A Survivor’s Guide to Staying Fearless and Fabulous in the Face of Breast Cancer is Melanie’s contribution to women who refuse to be controlled by breast cancer; who resist its confinement and instead choose to make smart decisions about their health and well-being.
