New study supports Cell Enriched Fat Grafting for Breast Reconstruction
Providing the Best in Natural Breast Reconstruction to Orlando & nearby areas of Florida
Another study supporting the use of cell enriched fat grafting in the breast has been published. In their study, Gentile et al., A comparitive translational study: The combined use of enhanced stromal vascular fraction and platelet-rich plasma improves fat grafting maintenance in breast reconstruction showed that by enriching fat with stromal vascular fraction (SVF) or Adipose Derived Stem and Regenerative Cells (ADRC's), the survival of fat grafts used for breast reconstruction was greatly improved. They compared the standard accepted method of fat grafting using the Coleman technique, with ADRC enriched fat grafting and with ADRC plus Platelet Rich Plasma enriched fat grafting. Using the Coleman method, patients showed approximately 39% maintenance of the fat grafted. Those patients in the enriched graft groups had 63% and 69% maintenance of the fat grafted when followed for 1 year.
This study reinforces the study of Sterodimas who compared cell enriched fat grafting to regular fat grafting in the face and showed similar improvement in fat graft results. This type of evidence helps counter the naysayers, particularly in our local community, who either disagree with fat grafting in general, or cell enriched fat grafting specifically.
These studies strengthen the case for cell enriched fat grafting and add to previous animal and human studies that compare call enriched and regular fat grafting techniques. The method of cell enriched fat grafting used in Gentile's study is the same as the method we offer at the Bougainvillea Clinique and the Adrecyte Regenerative Medicine and Surgery Center.
